High School
A typical day in EARLY YEARS
In Pre-K3 and Pre-K4, we rapidly grow alongside our classmates. Through hands-on experiences, our days are filled with creativity and play.
CIRCLE TIME
At morning “circle time,” we greet each other, recall what we learned yesterday, and talk about what we’ll be doing today. It’s an exciting time for sharing as a group
COMING TOGETHER
GET ACTIVE
Physical Education (PE) class is super fun because we’re always moving and being encouraged by Coach Hock to be active! We build our teamwork and use our bodies in an obstacle course — jumping, crawling, and hopscotching our way.
JUMPING, HOPPING, AND CRAWLING
LUNCHTIME REFUELING
It’s great to take a break from lessons and activities during lunch. We talk with classmates and gather with others across all grades. We’ll refuel and relax before afternoon activities.
SOCIALING, RELAXING, AND RE-ENERGIZING
CREATIVE EXPRESSION
We get to explore ourselves creatively through finger painting with Mr. Snow. The hands-on experience helps us identify primary colors and remember how we can mix them into secondary colors.
FINGER PAINTING
READING ALOUD
At story time, our teacher or special guest will read a book to us, as we learn new facts, imagine other worlds, and discover intriguing characters. Our Head of School even likes to come in to read to us!
LISTENING
A TYPICAL DAY IN LOWER SCHOOL
Between Kindergarten and 5th grade, we advance in our studies as we build upon our curiosity in different subjects and ideas.
READING DISCUSSION GROUPS
Sitting in small groups, we start our day reading together. Within the group, each classmate warms up, getting comfortable sharing thoughts with others. We discuss the characters and plot and then summarize our thoughts in a whole-group discussion.
SHARING
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS
In science class, we learn about osmosis by testing sugar, salt, and vinegar on gummy bears. We make observations, record data, analyze, and draw conclusions.
EXAMINING AND TESTING
REFUELING FOR SUCCESS
We can buy lunch in the cafeteria, refuel as we socialize with friends, and play games during recess. Lunchtime is perfect for recharging our batteries and expressing ourselves among our peers.
SOCIALING, RELAXING, AND RE-ENERGIZING
GROWTH THROUGH DANCE
In dance class, we rehearse for “Crossing the Bridge,” the fifth-grade graduation ceremony. We perform an uplifting dance that helps us showcase our growth and maturity.
PRACTICING AND PERFORMING
GET IMMERSED IN MUSIC
During music class, we learn how to sing, play the xylophone, and play the recorder. We practice different kinds of music, discuss composers, and learn each song’s history, making links to the world today and current events.
LISTENING AND PLAYING
PLAYING GOLF
After school, a professional golf company shows us how to hit a ball, going for distance and accuracy. Classmates and students from other grades participate, and we practice striking the ball!
MAKING YOUR MARK
A TYPICAL DAY IN middle school
Between 6th and 8th grade, we grow quickly in our skills and knowledge from day to day. We explore our talents through many activities.
DISSECTION IN SCIENCE CLASS
In science class, we ask questions as we dissect a shark, exploring its anatomy in detail. What did it eat and at what stage of digestion was its meal? We found a shrimp and a worm inside its belly!
INVESTIGATING
PUTTING HEART INTO OUR ART
In art class, we sculpt different hearts out of plaster and paint them. Each one has a distinct size, color, and message. We hang them from a tree’s branches, creating a “heart tree.” On formal days, we wear heart pins on our blazers.
EXPRESSING OURSELVES
REFUELING FOR SUCCESS
We have pizza for lunch or head to the Laker Cafe for a hot lunch and salad from the Salad Bar. We reset with friends, recharging our batteries before more stimulating classes in the afternoon.
SOCIALING, RELAXING, AND RE-ENERGIZING
DEVELOPING GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE
In geography class, we practice labeling all the continents and oceans of the globe. We watch a video that explains different geographical features, as we grow our knowledge about makes each country distinct.
MAPPING
CRITICAL DISCUSSION
In language arts, we get into circles to discuss questions around specific chapters in our book, including literary elements like character, plot, conclusion, and context. As we analyze the written word, we expand our critical thinking.
ANALYZING
PAUSING FOR RECOGNITION
At the Laker Lab, Quarter Celebrations celebrate our classmates who best showcase unity, truth, and integrity — “virtus, veritas, and unitas” on our Latin crest. This includes outstanding extracurricular participation.
REFLECTING ON SUCCESS
A TYPICAL DAY IN HIGH SCHOOL
Between 9th and 12th grade, we accelerate in our knowledge. We apply our skills and talents, and we build a global mindset with international awareness and perspectives.
BUSINESS-READY
In entrepreneurship class, we discuss how to start a business. Each student maps out their own business venture to be launched by the end of the school year as part of the Start Up Studio. At the annual showcase, everyone will share their business ventures in the hopes of gaining investors!
PLANNING AND STRATEGIZING
LEADING THE WAY
We contribute to our grade’s activities and events, as we discuss plans for Homecoming. Each grade’s Class Officers collaborate to plan activities around Spirit Week, including a pep-rally and homecoming dance.
ORGANIZING
REFUELING FOR SUCCESS
We refuel and catch up with friends at lunchtime. We can head over to the Laker Cafe for a hot lunch, a salad from the Salad Bar, or panini. We can also go to the Campus Store for a sandwich from Jersey Mike’s, BurgerFi, or other snacks.
SOCIALING, RELAXING, AND RE-ENERGIZING
VISUALIZING COMPLEX PROBLEMS
In High Level Statistics, part of the IBDP path, we solve problems individually in class and collaboratively with a partner. We use dry erase markers on desks to visualize the problems, erase mistakes, and make quick notes.
PROBLEM SOLVING
PHYSICS IN ACTION
In Physics Honors, we play with mini-race cars and ramps, adjusting the ramp height to accommodate the car’s journey. We use equations we’ve learned to know how to adjust the ramp angle, syncing it with the expected time on the stopwatch.
APPLYING OUR KNOWLEDGE
PRECISION AND PRACTICE
On the Lakerettes dance team, we practice our choreography continuously after school. We perfect what we’ve explored in dance class — including our techniques, posture, and flexibility — and get ready to compete at local and national levels.
