Young Women Poster2019
Windermere Preparatory School’s Emma Lawrence will donate 100% of the proceeds from her play, Young Women, to the Harbour House of Central Florida  Junior Emma Lawrence writes, casts, directs and produces the play, Young Women.

Windermere Prep is proud to support one of our High School Juniors, Emma Lawrence, as she produces her first play. Emma has been a Windermere Prep student since 8th grade with passions in theater and writing. With the start of the new year, Emma has decided to take on the IB Diploma program which will include IB Theater Arts at the Higher Level. In her theater experience with Windermere Prep, she has had multiple roles, with the most recent being Truvy in Steel Magnolias. Now, Emma has taken her talents to a new level by writing, casting, and directing her own play titled Young Women. The play depicts the struggles that young girls in the 21st-century have to face, from high-school to social media.

Of the creation process, she said “it hasn’t been easy and has taken a lot of time. It has definitely inspired me to create more, including writing a book in the future.” Additionally, Emma mentioned that this process has given her a new perspective of the realm of theater since she is usually on the stage, not behind the scenes. Being able to choose the cast and work with them as they develop the characters has been a great learning experience for her as well. She now understands more about what makes productions successful.  Emma wants the audience to walk away from the play “feeling inspired to make a change within themselves as well as the people around them.”

The play will be shown at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for regular seating and $20 for VIP seating. All proceeds will be donated to Harbor House*. Harbor House Mission Statement: Harbor House works to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse in Central Florida by providing critical life-saving services to survivors, implementing and advancing best practices, and educating and engaging the community in a united front.
