For Immediate Release

Windermere, FL. Windermere Preparatory School’s Fine Arts Department is proud to host opening night for Bye Bye Birdie. This musical is showcased at the Cypress Center for the Arts on the campus of Windermere Preparatory School. The musical will include students from multiple grade levels and showcase the many talents these students encompass including singing, acting, production, and stage design.

A few of the stars of Bye Bye Birdie explained that in their productions with WPS thus far, they are most excited about this particular production because of the fun-loving and spirited dances. Jayson Goldner (“Conrad Birdie”), explains his excitement for opening night. “I loved the rehearsal process but like other shows, my favorite part is always the dress run-throughs because it feels like the real shows but without the added stress.” Another member of the show, WPS Senior student Stuart Sheffield explains, “I'm excited to just make something of value with my friends- it's my last show at [WPS], with people I care about, and I am just excited to experience something like with a cast I know so well.”

Andrea Matos Devesa, another cast member Bye Bye Birdie says she was very interested in researching this play to optimize her onstage experience. “I'd heard of Bye Bye Birdie but I didn't know a lot about it, so I familiarized myself with the plot and  characters by watching the 1995 movie version. I really enjoy researching the context of any show that I'm involved in so I also did research into the social and cultural environment of the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including researching each of the cultural references made in the dialogue.”

These impressive students are not only involved in Musical Theater at Windermere Prep, they have impressive resumes. Sheffield is the Vice-President of High School SGA, a member of both National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society.  “My pride and joy is that I am the Community Outreach Manager of Uno Club,” Sheffield explains.

When it comes to learning at Windermere Preparatory School, it’s much more than just obtaining a part in a play. “I have learned most from our Director and Theatre teacher, Mrs. Fadoul. She has taught me a lot about production, general theater knowledge and all sorts of plays and theater styles such as Comedia Dell'Arte.” says Goldner.

Bye Bye Birdie runs March 31st & April 1st at 6:30pm, with the final show on April 2nd at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at https://teachtix.com/wps/bye-bye-birdie
