Reflections on Success

It is important in life to take time to reflect on achievements. In our busy lives with never-ending “to-do lists” it is so easy to get pre-occupied with the immediate. Taking stock and looking back, particularly at the end of a term, is an important part of learning and developing for everyone.

As we reflect on the last term we see yet more tremendous success and high achievement from our students. Uppermost in this I might place the wonderful offers that our students have received from outstanding universities across the world. These include a number of high ranking institutions in the UK and North America, particularly specialist universities such as the London School of Economics and the Royal College of Music. Many students have also obtained places at highly regarded universities across Asia and Australia. Moving on to university is such a key moment in anyone’s life, and to know that students from our school have been so successful gives us all great pride in their achievements.

Another academic highlight was the recent IGCSE Mathematics results. Almost half of our Year 11 students have sat their IGCSE Mathematics examination early and 97% have obtained a grade A or A*. This is a superb achievement for all the students and their teachers. Not only have they attained great success in Mathematics, but the students now have one exam out of the way which means they can devote even more time to their remaining exams in the coming months.

Beyond the classroom this term has seen numerous activities and highlights. From the Middle School production of Annie to the inspirational Book Week to countless successes in the sporting arena, our students have shone throughout and impressed everyone with their dedication and commitment. I am certain that the IB Music Recital this evening will add to this list, and I would urge anybody who has yet to hear Gina, Amanda, Mint, Jennifer and Kerstin play to come along and enjoy performances of the standard which we might see from professional musicians.

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to all the parents who have contributed to our ongoing consultations. There was a very useful meeting this week with parents of students from our Infants phase. Discussing their highlights and suggestions for even further improvement was so useful in helping us continue to work together to grow our school and community. Parents of students in other phases, please keep an eye out for invitations to similar events in the coming weeks.
