The children have worked hard this week to embed their learning on cohesive devices: conjunctions, noun phrases, adverbial phrases, prepositional phrases and adjective phrases. Next week will give children the opportunity to edit and improve these devices within their learning. Children will focus on editing skills to improve their Big Write from last week and to extend their use of cohesive devices within nonfiction writing. The children will be focusing on informal and formal writing within the context of sending emails.

This week we have revisited some ‘Number Sense’ work to consolidate the children’s understanding of fractions. Next week we will continue with Number Sense work but focus on calculations within different contexts. Children will focus on addition and subtraction with multi-step problems and using estimation and rounding to appropriate answers with a degree of accuracy.

We are almost at the end of our ‘Out of Africa’ unit. It has been a fascinating insight into the world of evolution and where we come from. Next week, the children will learn about human selection and gain an understanding of how we are unique. Children will also be given time to consolidate all of their learning from this unit of work and prepare themselves for our exhibition on Thursday. Please come along to see your children talk about and demonstrate their learning.
