100 students from 25 Nord Anglia schools from around the world took part in lectures, workshops, and games to stimulate our interest and build knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths.

Our week at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was an amazing, fun, and educational experience. We battled our jetlag to make the most of the experience from Day One, the cold brisk air helped to wake us up on our daily morning walks from the hotel to the MIT campus. Every day was packed with learning experiences throughout, some of the highlights included:

Circuit Bending – working in pairs dismantling old battery operated toys to alter the electric circuits to create new sounds and functions for the toys. This meant learning to solder and create new circuits amongst other skills.

Visualising Science – using cameras to show the physics behind water droplets, light refraction, and movement. In teams, we experimented and collaborated with some amazing results.

Celebrating 150 years of the Periodic Table with Professor Angela Belcher – we watched and participated in an inspiring lecture about evolving organisms and her work to create new materials for clean energy.

2.009 (two double oh nine) – one of MIT’s most famous courses, in teams we spent a day creating devices to help people with visual disabilities.

Inspiring Personal Stories from Science – current MIT students shared their journey to studying at MIT, the stories provided inspiration and motivation for us all.

We also got to experience; A tour of Harvard University, a Duck tour of Boston (an amphibious bus), The New England Aquarium, Improv. Boston: inspire and Discover, and Boda Borg.

All in all, an amazing week that we shall all remember for a long time.
