On 30 October, Year 12 English A students took part in their own BISS Talks event, delivering a range of engaging presentations. Standing in front of an audience can be a daunting task, but the speakers rose to the occasion, sharing their ideas with confidence and passion.

The D1 BISS Lions Girls Volleyball team participated in the SISAC Plate Tournament at the French School of Shanghai on Saturday 26 October. Entering the tournament as the 6th seed, the Lions finished their western division season with a record of 2 wins and 6 losses.

On Wednesday, our Year 9 French students embarked on an adventure around Shanghai’s Former French Concession, retracing the footsteps of the famous Belgian cartoon journalist, Tintin.

On 26 and 27 September, things got a little creepy and kooky in the Secondary Auditorium as our talented students performed The Addams Family Musical School Edition in three hit performances.

Our Business Management and Economics students had the good fortune of hosting an alumna, Alessandra Mariani, on 24 September. Alessandra is the Global Music Lead for TikTok’s Product Marketing team, as well as co-president of Women@TikTok for Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa (EMEA). Alessandra holds an MSc in Brand Leadership and a BA in Society, Culture and Media from The University of East Anglia. She joined TikTok in early 2020.

What is a Prefect? A Prefect employs the core values of courtesy, respect and responsibility. Prefects are ambassadors for the school and are excellent role models for other students. Their function is to represent the student body at school events and to act as role models upholding our value system.

Over the past weeks our Year 12 students have embarked on the next stage of their educational journey with us at BISS Puxi as IB learners. On Thursday 12 September, we held our annual ‘Succeeding at the IBDP’ information evening. The purpose of this event is to provide our students and their parents with an overview of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at BISS Puxi and offer practical advice on how best to approach the programme to maximise their potential for success.

Having graduated from BISS in 2022, Joceline is now studying Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear) at University of the Arts London. Joceline reflects on her time at BISS and how her education has helped to create her future.

The Year 7 residential trip was a resounding success, offering students a rich blend of educational and recreational activities. From exploring Tulou architecture to crafting bows and arrows, making food and tea, and engaging in exciting water activities, the students gained valuable skills, knowledge and memories. The trip not only enhanced their learning but also fostered personal growth and strengthened peer relationships.

Assessment in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is conducted through a TOK Exhibition and a 1600-word TOK essay. The TOK exhibition is an internal assessment component that is marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. It is an excellent opportunity for students to explore what knowledge is and what impacts how we know things.

Transitioning from Primary to Secondary School is a significant milestone in a child's educational journey. To ease this transition and ensure a smooth start, many schools organise transition days that allow Primary students to experience Secondary School life before the new academic year begins.

On 15 May, the Charity Committee successfully organised an International Day celebration. They put on an amazing performance and various activities for all Secondary students to enjoy. The money raised will go to Bloodline, an organisation that supports children with blood cancer.
