At 8.30am on Saturday 23 November a group of incredibly brave and dedicated BISS business students arrived at the ASDAN Business Simulation Competition eager to face the grueling two day challenge ahead.

BISS Puxi Director of Sport and Assistant Headteacher, Mr Thomas Hitchings, rescued a young boy from drowning while on holiday in Guilin.

With the holidays upon us, why not follow our top tips to improve your literacy skills this summer? Whatever your level of English, there are lots of fun activities below that you can follow to improve your reading and writing skills. Our English teachers have provided a wide range of recommended books to read, as well as links to websites or Apps which will allow you to test your knowledge with some fun quizzes and games. We hope that you take advantage of these top tips and enjoy your holiday.

This week, we are delighted to share the news and successes of our Year 13 IB Diploma students, who have just received their results. Despite all of the challenges faced, pupils at The British International School Shanghai, Puxi were able to sit their final examinations earlier this summer and they have achieved an excellent set of outcomes. My congratulations to each graduate for their achievements. We believe that there is no limit to what students can achieve socially, personally and academically. This year, our students’ academic results reflect our shared commitment to excellence in this area.

Our Secondary students have been fully engaged in investigating about environmental issues and form groups have worked collaboratively together to come up with different fundraising events for The Million Tree Project (MTP) run by Shanghai Roots and Shoots.

Studying on the IB Diploma Programme helped Daniel Hawkins discover a passion for medicine. Daniel graduated from the school in 2020. In 2021 he will be embarking on his first steps towards becoming a doctor, after securing offers from two Medical Schools in the UK.

Though it is longer than I care to admit, I remember walking into my reception classroom in Sydney with not a single word of English. It was daunting, stressful, and uncomfortable.

There are times for all of us where we need to dig deep and find some motivation from somewhere to achieve our goals.  Marlon shares some of what he learnt on his journey in understanding motivation.

Learning never stops. In fact, you could say that after you leave school there is even more to learn than ever before. However, the earlier we start to engrain a philosophy of lifelong learning into our young people, the better. Professional athletes make lifelong learning a habit from an early age because they know that they cannot reach peak performance without it.

We are delighted to announce that as part of Nord Anglia’s partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 104 students from 26 schools will once again have the opportunity to travel to MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, to participate in the annual STEAM week @ MIT.

The BISS Lions Sports programme offers a multitude of exciting opportunities to take part in sports events within Shanghai and further afield in China and Asia. There is usually a charge for these events, which covers transportation, accommodation, food and entry fees.

At the beginning of a new school year, it is always an opportunity for a fresh start, one for all of us. That is especially the case in the international school setting, when we often spend our summer holidays travelling around the world.
