The team set off to Chengdu to compete in the first NAE Multisports games since 2019. Twenty-one boys and girls, from Years 4 and 5 were looking forward to competing in a two-day tournament of athletics and football. For most of these students, this was their first sports tour and there was a great deal of excitement, sprinkled with a touch of nervousness.
Over the course of the two days of competing, it was great to see our students excelling. For some, this would have been the first time running on a track! The way they cheered on their team mates irrespective of the result was heartwarming. The collective work of all students led to the BISS Lions sealing the overall 1st Place in the Athletics Championship.
During the football tournament it was a matter of fine margins. The boys’ team played seven games, won one, drew three and lost two conceding only two goals, missing out on the semi-finals on goal difference. The girls played five group games, winning one, drawing one, losing three and progressing to the semi-finals.
The games moved from 10 minutes to two 15-minute halves. They battled intensely with NAIS HK, narrowly losing 3-2. The third and fourth place play off was equally intense, with the BISS Lions taking a 1-0 lead. However, we conceded on the stroke of half-time, and then early in the second half. The game was level moving into the final moments, only for BSB to take victory.
We are immensely proud of the achievements, resilience and how the students conducted themselves throughout the two days of competition. They were true ambassadors for our school. There was a great deal of memories made, and it was nice for them to be rewarded for their effort, in claiming the 2025 NAE Games Athletics Championship.
