Through cross-curricular learning, Year 1 have continued to improve their knowledge of weather and the seasons. In Topic sessions, they have learnt about the different seasons and the changes that occur in the transitions between them; they have consolidated this learning in Arts sessions: creating of a piece of art that shows the seasonal changes through their effects on a tree. As the weather starts to get a bit warmer, Year 1 look forward to recording detailed observations of these changes in Science sessions using the self-made components of their weather stations.
In English, Year 1 have described the features of winter in detail in a piece of writing based on ‘One Snowy Night’. In the coming weeks, they will look at spring and its climatic features as they begin a unit of Poetry that will focus on performance poetry and recognizing recurring literary language.
