Something very strange has been happening along the Year 2 corridor recently and we were in for a scary surprise when a dragon landed on the playground a few weeks ago. With the CCTV footage as proof of the huge creature visiting our school and the dragon eggs arriving in our classroom, we were ready for some exciting learning.
We have been carefully studying our dragon eggs to create descriptions of the types of dragons we think would come from them, we designed our own dragon which came with an informative leaflet to tell you all about them and in the past week we have been focusing on dragon eyes in Art. We started by using our drawing skills to draw what a dragon eye looks like, showing the detail of each individual part. Then we used clay and glass dragon eyeballs to create our scary sculptures. The children carefully sculpted, moulded and carved their clay to make them detailed and realistic.
Finally, it was time to paint them. The children looked at lots of examples of real dragons to see the colours they could use and patterns they could create. They also used their colour mixing skills to make varying shades to make their dragon eyes unique. Year 2 are wondering if there are any more scary surprises coming soon!
