Year 3 had an exciting start to their unit on mass and capacity by exploring differences in weights of everyday objects.
They picked up and compared a variety of weights from 1 gram up to a kilogram. They then used this knowledge to estimate the weight of classroom objects – iPads, sand-timers, containers and even puppets!
First, the children went round the classrooms to find objects, then discussed the unit of measurement which they would use. They predicted the mass of the objects by comparing these with fixed weights. Finally, they weighed them using scales to check their predictions. Many of the estimations were incredibly close! It was fantastic to see them collaborating brilliantly in groups.

Year 4 recently embarked on a thought-provoking unit of work, stepping into the shoes of Rainforest Detectives to solve a serious environmental mystery, in the hope of changing the future of the rainforest.
Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.
