Chinese Update

Chinese Update | BSB Sanlitun - Chinese Update

It has been a busy and dynamic week for all students in Chinese classrooms. Let’s look at some of the highlights of learning and activities there.

The children in Nursery learned about colours. They discussed their favourite colours and discovered that they can create new ones by mixing different colours. They also tried looking at the world through transparent coloured cards, experiencing the changes in colours, which they found very interesting.

The children in Reception are learning to say their countries in Chinese. They have learned about their national flags and are trying to describe their flags using the colours they have learned. They are making an effort to say what countries they are from. They are very proud to be able to say their countries in Chinese.

Year 1 native group children are learning pinyin. The students have already studied 6 final sounds and 8 initial sounds, and they are practising to read them diligently. In learning pinyin, the four tones are quite challenging. The children practise adding the correct tones to pinyin using the “hat game.” They also used their hands and bodies to form pinyin, which adds fun to their learning and deepens their understanding.

Students in Year 3 native group have learned to use radicals to look up words in the dictionary, which is a very important skill in learning Chinese. They worked hard to practise finding radicals, counting strokes, locating characters in the dictionary, and learning to read those characters, which gavethem a great sense of achievement. By learning to use the dictionary, they can learn more Chinese characters more quickly.

Year 4 native group students learned an ancient poem about grass. They got to know the author and also learned an interesting story behind the poem. They practised reading and reciting the poem, and wrote it in their best handwriting on a special piece of paper. They can use this work to decorate their rooms, which makes them very happy.
