This week in Nursery, we’ve been diving into our winter theme - and having so much fun along the way!

To help children explore and understand the ideas of “hot” and “cold,” we set up a variety of sensory experiences. The children compared the warmth from a heater with the chilly air from a fridge, felt the difference between popsicles, ice and warm water, and even explored the gentle warmth of a hairdryer. These hands-on activities encouraged lots of curiosity.

We also talked about how the weather changes in winter and how people dress to stay warm. The children shared great ideas like “snow,” “warm jacket,” and “my hat.” From there, we moved into practical activities that supported both vocabulary building and independence - practising how to put on boots, wrap a scarf, and get ready for colder days.

Throughout the week, we enjoyed a variety of winter-themed activities: playing with ice, decorating winter hats, and creating sparkling “snowflakes” using salt. With plenty of time and space to explore, the children followed their interests and added their own creative twists to each activity.

It has been a joyful, busy, and very frosty week of learning!
