Update from the German Department

Update from the German Department | BSB Sanlitun - Update from the German Department

The past few weeks have been both productive and engaging in the German Department.

In Early Years (EY), the children have been learning about opposites. Through a range of activities, including shared reading and songs, the children developed their understanding of this concept in an enjoyable and interactive way.

Year 1 began a new topic “At Home.”During this topic, the children are learning about the home and its different rooms, as well as everyday themes and routines such as grocery shopping and friendship. The children took part in a supermarket role-play activity and discussed the importance of friendship. In addition, we have read a book on friendship, which led to thoughtful classroom discussions. The topic also provided opportunities for the children to develop their writing skills by composing an email to a friend.

Year 3 also started a new topic, “Communication.” In this topic, the children are exploring various forms of communication, including light signals, Morse code, messages in a bottle, and smoke signals. They learned about the invention of the telephone and were introduced to other significant inventors. Later in the topic the children will write step-by-step craft instructions and then create a tin can telephone.

Upper KS2 is currently participating in a Text Workshop, during which the students read and analyse a variety of texts. The focus of this work is on developing vocabulary, strengthening grammatical accuracy, and understanding text structure. The texts in the writing workshop are truly special. They represent a range of different literary genres, and they encourage the children to ask big questions and engage in meaningful discussions.
