This week marked our first week back after the Chinese New Year holiday. It was wonderful to welcome everyone back, and the children were excited to share stories about their amazing holidays with one another.
YEAR 1
Before the break, our Year 1 children were learning about bar charts and tally charts. They practised creating tally charts based on their hobbies and worked together to make bar charts showing their favourite colours and fruits. The children thoroughly enjoyed collecting the data and presenting it in different ways.

YEAR 2
In Year 2, the children explored the story The Burglars. They read the story carefully, performed role-plays in groups, and retold the story in pairs. After lots of verbal practice, they wrote the story again using their own words. Although the main events stayed the same, the children expressed the story in their own way. We were very impressed with their growing confidence and independence in writing.

YEAR 3
Year 3 focused on the topic of sports. They practised describing bar charts linked to their favourite sports and asked one another questions to collect information. After gathering the data, they created their own bar charts and described their findings. For example: “In our class, seven children’s favourite sport is swimming.” The children showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the activity.

UPPER PRIMARY
In Upper Primary (Years 5 and 6), the children learned how to describe people’s physical features in greater detail. They played a game of Guess Who? in pairs. Each child chose a character card and described the person’s appearance, including hair type and colour. Some language they used: curly, straight, brown, blonde, moustache, beard, a scar, glasses and other distinguishing features. Their partner then tried to guess who it was. The classroom was filled with laughter as they practised their speaking skills in a fun and engaging way.

It has been a fantastic EAL learning journey so far, and we are excited to continue developing our language skills in the weeks ahead.
