During the summer break, Year 10 students Yaosern and Leonard competed in the IIUM Interschool Debate Competition 2024.

They were placed 9th and advanced to the out rounds of the competition. In the first round, Yaosern ranked 31st out of 193 participants, while Leonard ranked 28th. In the out rounds, Yaosern improved to 12th place out of 47, and Leonard placed 19th.

Competing at the International Islamic University Malaysia, the two students went head-to-head with 93 other teams and 193 participants, ultimately reaching the prestigious top 24 breaking teams. They secured an impressive 9th place in the outrounds. Their outstanding results are a testament to hours of dedicated training and preparation, which sharpened their debate skills and strategic thinking. In his first-ever tournament, Yaosern demonstrated remarkable skill, resilience, and ambition. Similarly, Leonard displayed tremendous hard work, intelligence, and skill throughout the competition.

The IIUM Interschool Debate Competition is an esteemed annual event that draws young debaters from across Malaysia, all eager to impress the judges with their arguments. This year’s competition brought together a diverse group of 193 debaters, from seasoned veterans to driven newcomers, making it a true test of skill and perseverance. We congratulate Yaosern and Leonard on their courage, commitment, and hard-earned achievements on this national stage. Their dedication to excellence is an inspiration to our entire school community.
