Christmas Concert
Following on from the primary Winter Wonderland Concert, parents and friends were treated to more live music at the Christmas Concert on Friday 10 December with performances by all the newly formed school ensembles. The Primary Choir, Secondary Choir, Community Choir, Funkadelic Orchestra and Ukulele Club all performed along with a selection of soloists, duets and poetry readings.

Unsung Hero – Ms Luciana Piddock
Ms Luciana was born in the city of Londrina, in Brazil (famous for its coffee) and is the youngest of 4 siblings. As a child Ms Luciana wanted to become a Policewoman and loved cats. So much so that by the age of 13 she had 13 cats but unfortunately no pets now as she travels frequently with her family and that would be unfair on any pets.

Charity Chess Championship
On Saturday 27th November, BST and Sky Chess hosted our second Charity Chess Championship. The Swiss style tournament was open to all young people from ages 8 – 18, with local and international schools each bringing their two best players. We hosted 70 top players from across Tashkent to play 9 rounds over the day.

Baby Launch!
BST EYFS department has some fabulous news. We have extended our services by launching a brand-new Bright Beginnings Baby Care group this week. We look after babies from age 6-20 months, where they can enjoy a half or full day of care and learning through play. This is a gentle transition from home to school as we have created a lovely play and nap room for the little ones. This is a small cosy group with a 2:2 staff baby ratio; a fully qualified British Teacher and a Russian Teacher’s Assistant/Nanny.

Swim Gala
The BST Sea Lions came together for our first Gala of the academic year. New faces joined the swimmers from last year as 76 schools throughout the Nord Anglia family competed on a global scale in a virtual gala. Swimmers from ages 8 - 17 met at the pool, cheered on by classmates, staff and family as they set their best times over 25m. Those that posted the best time in their age category also raced in the 4x25m relay. New school records have been set and lots of new personal bests posted. A big thank you to the staff that helped on the day and to the parents that came to support the swimmers!

On Sunday 21st November, BST Lion Cubs travelled to TIS to take part in the Boys and Girls Primary Basketball Tournament. A long day of basketball saw both teams grow in confidence, teamwork and skill.

Winter Wonderland
The British School of Tashkent invites the Tashkent community to our annual fun filled Winter Wonderland. Once through our entrance you will be greeted by festive music from three choirs led by world leading musician, Ms Alison Porter. The smell of freshly made gingerbread, cinnamon, cloves and orange will embrace you and you will be dazzled by our Winter Wonderland bathed in golden light. Of course, there will be magic in the air, with Santa, Mrs Claus and the Elves there!

Anti-Bullying Week
We are launching our new RESPECT policy during Anti-Bullying Week from 15-19th November. To raise awareness, we have invited Olympiads from this year’s Olympics and Para Olympics to talk about how they overcame bullying during their quest for excellence. Please support this initiative by discussing this topic with your children and appropriate actions if they have experienced this or have seen someone else being bullied.

Walk All Over Cancer - Together We Can Beat Cancer!
BST were delighted to raise over 30,000,000UZS at their first “Walk All Over Cancer” event on Tuesday 26th October in memory of the previous principal, Mr David Kirkham. Students and parents wore "Walk All Over Cancer" t-shirts designed by a Year 12 student, walked the circuit to inspiring music and pinned their hopes and wishes for their loved one around the basketball court. Parents and students were also treated to free Zumba and Yoga sessions by premium lifestyle gym BeFit. The event ended with a delicious lunch and a question and answer session with the BeFit Nutritionist, Olesya Kurbanova about how to encourage children to make healthy choices.

Ms Olga started working at BST 3 months ago. She is the friendly face many students, parents and teachers see at our busy Kalandar campus. Ms Olga looks like a fairy, sounds like a mermaid and has nerves of steel. This means she is the voice of reason and wisdom in any crisis and calmly helps us see the opportunity in every challenge.

Quiz Night for Parents and Teachers
Our first Parent Teacher Quiz on Friday 22nd October was a great success. Mr Simon Porter (Head of Secondary) lead the quiz with 6 very competitive teams. Questions ranged from guessing cities, actors, musician and much more. After a hard won battle the “Lets Get Quizzical” team won the prizes whilst the remaining teams consoled with the delicious Azeri food and drinks provided at Actor restaurant.

As part of their topic ‘My Life, Your Life’, Year 2 have been learning to compare life in Tashkent with life in London. Having explored the landmarks of London through James Mayhew’s picture book ‘Katie in London’, we took it upon ourselves to explore the great landmarks of Tashkent from the top of a big red bus!
