ECO Clubs Generate Middle School Movement

This past week we had a huge outpouring of students interested in becoming involved with our two newly formed student-led clubs: Green Team and Club Responsabilidad Social SIFAIS (CRSS). Friday, both clubs met and created a plan for the final weeks of the semester.

Green Team is collecting filled ECO Bricks in Room 231. Their hope is to collect enough by the end of the semester to build a raised garden bed. In their leadership team meeting, Friday, they began writing a proposal to the Parent Association asking for a MS Composter. This is all being done in light of the club’s objective: eliminate waste on campus.

CRSS is designing donation boxes and spreading the word for our first donation drive to the Carpio community. They have asked CRS to send used clothes of good quality that can be sewn and sold as bags, purses, and other items. These items will be sold on in San Jose and in CDS campus. All proceeds will go back to the families in La Carpio who made the items.

Toy Drive

Every year middle school collects Toys for "Hogar posadas de Belén". This will begin on Monday 18th and continue until December the 6th. "Hogar Posadas de Belén" is  a shelter in Coyol, Alajuela for teen mothers aged 12-18. This year we will focus on Christmas gifts for newborn children up to children of 4 years old. We are asking for new toys with no batteries, or new clothes wrapped inside a Christmas bag. Donations should be given to Ms. Urrutia or Mrs. Rodríguez. Click here for the link to find out more

The Nutcracker, 10th December

On the 10th of December is CDS Drama Department’s production of The Nutcracker. Ms. Margie Stanfield has worked hard over these last few months to get everything ready and we are excited about another spectacular performance to follow on from her hits last year! Tickets are available to buy from the business office and middle school office on Monday for 2,000 colones.

Friday 22nd Teachers Day!

Thanksgiving - the spirit of giving

The Spirit of GIVING at Thanksgiving In the spirit of showing gratitude at Thanksgiving, we will create baskets of supplies for the Country Day School maintenance, cleaning, cafeteria, and security staff. We ask that each student bring in an item to fill the “gratitude baskets” to help show appreciation to the people who help us each day.

Please bring in the following items:

Early Childhood – Rice & Beans

Elementary – Non-perishable food (NOT rice & beans)

Middle School – Soaps & detergents

High School – Luxury snacks

As there are about 51 maintenance, cleaning, cafeteria, and security staff members, it is very important that each student bring in an item so we can fill the baskets with supplies for each staff member. Please be sure to send in your item before Thursday, November 21. We will need help putting the baskets together to make them look beautiful! If you would like to help us in this, please meet in the LRC at 8:15 am, Monday, November 25th. Thank you for your help in showing gratitude to the amazing staff who make our CDS experience possible!
