Words for Secondary

Words from Secondary - Words from Secondary

We are excited to report that almost 20 of our secondary students, along with Mr. Balding, Ms. Agney, Mr. Young and Ms. Herrera have arrived safety in Tanzania.  They are already actively working at a local school, going on safari, camping under the Tanzania night sky and beginning the long and difficult hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro. Way to go CDS!

Our secondary teachers have been very busy planning and preparing for next school year! Department Teams in grades 6-12 have been evaluating course offerings, planning for new and exciting course opportunities, and preparing to expand rigorous AP and Pre-AP course options throughout our middle and high school.  Next week, our current JUNIOR students will begin the process of course selection for the 23-24 school year.  Students will meet on an individual basis with College Counselor Mr. DeVega to carefully choose courses for their last year of high school. If you have any questions about the process or about individual course offerings, feel free to contact Mr. DeVega at: gerardo.devega@cds.ed.cr.

Did you know that our school counselors, Paula Mora and Isabel Urrutia deliver regular Social Emotional Lessons to students in Middle and High School? Lessons range from a variety of topics, including: student relationships; drugs/alcohol; and adolescent stress.  This week, for example, high school students will participate in lessons around alcohol use and abuse.  Lessons are developed from research-based units produced by the Alcohol Education Trust. If you have any questions about our SEL lessons, please feel free to contact Paula Mora (paula.mora@cds.ed.cr) or Isabel Urrutia (isabel.urrutia@cds.ed.cr

Please also don’t forget to join other CDS families at two major fundraising events coming up: The CDS Fun Run (happening tomorrow, Saturday, Feb, 25) and the CDS Golf Outing (happening on March 11 – link below to register). Both of these activities are a great way to support CDS and spend time in a social setting with other families. Our school teams will be at these community events, and we hope to see you too!

We are off to a great start with our College Talks. During Flex, our Juniors will be having several talks regarding the college application process. These are exciting times for them. Starting next week, I will be meeting with them to discuss next year's course load. Please check your emails for the invitation.

Great news for our high school community. On March 27, CDS will be hosting the Central American College Tour. This tour is made up of 70+ universities from around the world. It tours 5 Central American countries and CDS is the only host for Costa Rica. The fair will run from 8 am to 1 pm in the gym. CDS high school students will visit the fair from 8 am to 9 am, and it will open up to other school from 9 am to 1 pm. I hope to see you at the fair. The flyer below has the registration link.
