Read-a-Thon 2023 from March 31st – April 21st

The Library will be sponsoring a Read-a-thon in Early Childhood and Elementary, and MS STUCO will have a schoolwide Book Drive as a community service project. The money and books collected from these activities will go towards Bibliotecas Actualiza project. The purpose of the project is to create and equip public schools in Costa Rica with small libraries with books in Spanish. More than 80% of schools in Costa Rica do not have access to books, with your help more schools like the ones in the picture below could benefit of having libraries, and books to enhance the love for reading in their students.

If you would like to participate in the Read-a-thon students will need to follow these steps:

  • EC and ES students should ask family members, friends, and neighbors to pledge money for every page that the student reads from March 31st to April 21st. In younger grades students may also listen or read along with a fluent reader (parent, sibling, nanny, etc).   Pledges can be recorded in the linked Read-a-thon Pledge 2023
  • After completing the reading challenge, students should collect their pledges and turn the money into the Library by Friday, April 21st.

Read-a-thon Pledge 2023 can be recorded digitally and emailed to Ms. Córdoba or they can be printed and turned into the Library.

MS STUCO students will have a stand to collect books in Spanish for Bibliotecas Actualiza Program during the CDS Book Fair as part of their community service.  Books can also be brought in.
