The arrival of the chicks If you ask the students of Collège Champittet in Nyon what was the most striking memory of the month of May, many will certainly answer the birth of the little chicks.

If you ask the students of Collège Champittet in Nyon what was the most striking memory of the month of May, many will certainly answer the birth of the little chicks.

Normally, every year, the 1st year primary students go on a discovery day at the farm. A day that the pupils particularly appreciate, being in nature, seeing, stroking the animals, touching the cereals, the straw the faith, hearing the cow mooing, the pig grunting, the goat bleating, tasting the cheese made on the spot. But this year the outing had to be cancelled due to current circumstances, fortunately our 1st and 2nd primary school teachers had planned a magical experience for the children at school: the hatching of chicks.

To do this, the teachers had placed several eggs in an incubator and the eggs were carefully turned every day by the pupils. After a very critical transition period, the most visible part was broken from inside the egg and the first chicks came out of their shells, a real moment of wonder for the children. The chicks were then brought back to the farm where they will be able to grow peacefully.
