Madinat Khalifa Primary Headlines | Monday, 25 November 2019 Weekly news from Madinat Khalifa Primary Campus by Mr Jimmy Frawley, Head of Madinat Khalifa Primary.

Dear Parents,

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute Innovation Competition

As part of Nord Anglia Education, we have a range of fantastic partnerships with world-renowned institutions. One of these is UNICEF and our students have been focused on ways in which we can make the world a better place through the Sustainable Development Goals. This has included campus specific-initiatives such as paper recycling bins, online activities with schools around the world through NAE Global Campus and through projects based in Qatar. I would like to highlight one of these projects today.

Mr. McArtney supported our very first Young Innovators Team to compete in a national competition held by QEERI (Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute). This was a small team of ambitious Year 6 students at MK who were keen on making significant progress towards the UNICEF Sustainable Development Goals.

The project was to create a video which showed the team's research and innovation skills. This took them around Doha over the last five weeks to different institutes and locations with the tremendous help and involvement of their parents. They have learned a great deal about how Qatar produces its drinking and washing water, and how vital it is to use water in moderation to save energy and pollution. You can watch their video below:

If successful, the team will be invited to show their video at the ‘Conference on Sustainable Energy-Water-Environment Nexus’ in December. I would like to express my thanks to Mr McArtney and the parents involved for giving up their time and for offering such wonderful support.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating this wonderful group of students and wish them good luck for the competition.

Have a great week,

Jimmy Frawley,

Head of Primary, Madinat Khalifa
