Themaid News | Monday, 2 December 2019 Enjoy our updates from Ms Ann Djedid, Head of Campus, Themaid.

Dear Parents,

On Thursday Year 2 presented a wonderful assembly about living and non-living things, as part of their International Primary Curriculum learning.

They entertained us with a party, super singing and by teaching us about what plants need to grow. We were amazed at their use of vocabulary and how clearly they presented to the audience. What a fantastic achievement by all of Year 2.

Thank you to parents who bought books from our first Themaid Book Fair. The feedback was very positive and there was a good selection of books available. We look forward to launching a Book Club in January and a new range of library-based activities for families. If you have any free time in the coming weeks, please come and help in the school library. Contact mariam.ahmed@nais.qa for details.

Friends of Compass School launched their thanksgiving boxes on Thursday. The Reception area is full of gift tags which students can choose to bring donations for the teams of people who help behind the scenes. We hope that our school community will show their gratitude by donating dry food, phone cards, toiletries and treats to thanks them for their efforts. Thank you in advance for your donation.

On Monday, we held two parent workshops on ‘How to Help your Child to Succeed in school’, presented in both English and Arabic. Thank you to the parents who turned up for both presentations and to Mr Porter for leading them.  We will be starting a new series of seminars in January and would love to hear from you if there is an area of the curriculum you would like to learn about. Please contact me on ann.djedid@nais.qa to share your thoughts.

We are looking forward to a music assembly on Wednesday morning at 8.00am when the instrumental teachers we have in school will come together as a Cuban Band to showcase their music skills and entertain students. Parents are welcome to join. If you would like more information on instrument tuition, please contact Mrs Porter on alison.porter@nais.qa.

Wednesday will also be a ‘Drop in for Coffee’ opportunity to meet staff and other parents. Why not have a coffee and listen to the band at the same time?

This week will see the last of the current ECA clubs running. The new selection will be issued shortly and commence on 12th January 2019. Please collect your child promptly at 1.30pm. Hibernia learning has a slightly different schedule and parents will be informed of that.

Next week we will be celebrating STEAM learning in school on Sunday and Monday. We know that jobs of the future will involve multidisciplinary skills and project-based learning, through our collaboration with MIT, teaches students to solve problems and be creative using a variety of strategies and inter disciplinary skills. For more information on our approach to STEAM, please see the link.

On Wednesday 27 November Compass Themaid Year 4, 5 and 6 boys travelled to GEMS American Academy for a fun football festival. All players showed amazing skills, effort and teamwork. We can't wait to compete against GEMS American Academy again soon. A special thanks to Mr Vinall for the support and helping coach the boys and to Mr Sutton for arranging the competition.

Have a wonderful week ahead.

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid
