Year 4 Trip to Singapore Zoo!! Year 4 Trip to Singapore Zoo!! Year 4 Trip to Singapore Zoo!!

On Thursday 2nd October, the children in Year 4 went on a school trip to Singapore Zoo. It was a great chance to put everything we have been learning in our science ‘Habitats’ topic into practice.

We loved observing all the different animals in their habitats and learning lots of incredible facts about them. For example, did you know that male meerkats take in it turn to go on sentry duty? This is just like the Roman soldiers we’ve been learning about in our humanities topic. Did you also know that the tallest giraffe stood at a huge 6.1m tall? We also found out that cheetahs have a flexible spine to help them run faster. We were absolutely amazed!

After observing all the animals, we went to watch a fantastic elephant show. We got to see the elephants do all kinds of tricks and we learnt lots more facts. For example, did you know that elephants use leaves like pillows before they lie down and that they use their trunks to shake them above their heads to get rid of all the insects and bugs?

It was a super hot day at the Zoo, so at the end of the trip, we were all rewarded by a visit to the Splash Park to cool off. We had lots of fun on the slides and using the water guns to squirt our friends.

It was a long walk back to the coach and we were all very tired. Mrs. McFadyen’s class decided to make the walk a little more interesting and chanted like Roman soldiers – it certainly made the walk much more enjoyable!
