‘Learner Ambitions’ framework in classroom and extra-curricular activities

The curriculum of the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme and the DCIS Instrumental Programme was presented at the parent workshop last week.

The ways in which the nine ‘Learner Ambitions’ framework is delivered in both the classroom and extra-curricular activities were detailed in the 90 minute presentation, explaining the three main areas of the curriculum – ‘Ways of Doing’, ‘Ways of Being’ and ‘Ways of Thinking’.

Parents were able to gain insight into these three learning disciplines by experiencing an excerpt of a lesson from a student’s perspective, in which the objectives of the lesson were:

  1.  To be able to think and understand in patterns (Perception and Performing).
  2. To be able to be creative (Creativity and Expression).
  3. To be able to work with others to meet goals (Collaboration).

Parents experienced how these objectives developed four of the nine key competencies of the ‘Learner Ambitions’ model, while fostering all of the ‘Ways of Doing’, ‘Ways of Being’ and ‘Ways of Thinking’ disciplines.

An overview of the topics presented included:

  • Why learn through the NAE-Juilliard Performing Arts Programme?
  • What will my child learn?
  • How will my child learn?
  • What does the Learner Profile address?
  • What opportunities exist at Dover Court to extend my child’s learning?
  • What are these concerts/mini productions exactly?
  • How can my child participate in these events?

The re-launched Dover Court Instrumental Programme was also presented, with parents given the opportunity to ask questions directly to instrumental teachers over a range of topics.
