Well done to our MYP5 students who have outperformed by 20% their predicted Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs) baseline across all subjects!

La Côte International School students and their families were happy to receive their MYP5 exam results for the 2017-2018 academic year, which showed an increase on their predicted CAT baseline test of more than 20% across all departments, with Physics, French, English, Art and Music leading the ranking.

  • 4 out of 10 students achieved an overall grade of 37+, a 400% increase on last year's results!
  • 5 out of 10 LCIS students achieved top quartile grades of 6+, showing a threefold increase on 2016-2017 MYP5 exam results

At the start of each academic year, all LCIS Secondary School students sit a series of Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs).

CAT tests allow teachers to:

  • Identify potential: unveiling masked capability as well as gifted and talented students
  • Personalise learning: gaining in-depth awareness of the ability of each pupil, which allows teachers to adapt their lessons accordingly

The CATs do not focus on testing curriculum knowledge, but rather the interpretation of four key areas:

1) Verbal (word sequences)

2) Non-Verbal (shape sequences)

3) Quantitative (number sequences)

4) Spatial (figure analysis)

Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT) are widely used throughout the UK and leading international schools to enable a clearer understanding of students’ strengths, areas for development and natural ways of learning.
