Frequently asked questions

  • What documents are needed when applying?

    When completing your online application form, you must provide:

    a copy of your child’s passport
    a recent photo of your child
    their last school reports
    a copy of their health insurance card
    residency permit (once you are in Switzerland)
    specialist and medical reports relating to your child’s needs (if applicable).

    When we’ve received and verified all your documents, we’ll confirm your placement offer. For more information, email us at admissions@lcis.ch.

  • How long should I expect the admissions process to take from start to finish?
    Once you’ve submitted your application form and supporting documentation, our friendly staff will get back to you within 24 hours (excluding weekends).
  • How does the application process work if my company is paying the tuition fees?
    Our aim is for the application process to be as easy and seamless as possible for parents. If your company is paying your tuition fees, our friendly Admissions and Finance teams will be happy to liaise with them direct, allowing you to concentrate on your child’s wellbeing and education.

  • Are your teachers qualified?
    All our teachers have a recognised teaching qualification and are selected for their rich and relevant professional experience in their field.   • What curriculum does LCIS offer? How about your bilingual offer?

    Our youngest learners gain fundamental skills through the broad and stimulating Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

    Our Primary curriculum combines the best aspects of the National Curriculum for England (ENC) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This approach creates an ambitious learning environment which meets the needs of our international community.Our integrated, tailored range of French options, from a beginner's foreign language course to truly bilingual provision, provides an excellent transition into the diverse international secondary curriculum offer.

    Lower Secondary students (Years 7-9) follow a curriculum programme that ideally prepares them for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at 16 years old and the IBDP at ages 16 -18. With excellent French tuition in place, your child will be well prepared to achieve excellent academic results, with the option of continuing to develop their strengths in two or more languages.

    The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for ages 16 - 18 is internationally considered the "gold standard" among pre-university qualifications and is recognised by world-leading universities globally. Its rigorous assessment and enriching curriculum serve as solid preparation for success in higher education. Whether your child opts for a single language or bilingual IB Diploma, they will be well equipped to successfully apply to top universities in Switzerland and abroad.

  • English is not our family’s first language. How will LCIS support my child?
    English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is always available to new students at LCIS, and our highly-qualified teachers have plenty of experience integrating students from many different language backgrounds. No matter your home language, your child will be supported to adapt quickly and succeed in school, both academically and socially.

    However, your home language is equally important to us, and we recognise the value of supporting our children to also flourish within their own culture and language.
  • Do you provide after-school activities?
    Yes—over 80! With clubs available for STEAM subjects, art, sports, music, drama, robotics, computer science, French, German, and many other academically enriching activities, there truly is something for every student, no matter their interests or hobbies.
  • Will my child need a laptop?
    Children in Primary will have access to our iPad trolley. In Year 7, 8 and 9 each student will be given an iPad, in Year 10 and 11, students will receive a Macbook. Our IBDP students like to bring their own laptop, this can be a PC or Macbook depending on their preference.  
  • Does the school have a nut or allergy policy?
    Student safety is our number one priority, and we recognise that some foods may be hazardous to a handful of students. So, we’ve developed a policy of no nuts in school and ensure that teachers and students are not only aware of the potential dangers, but also are able to assist where necessary. LCIS also has one full-time nurse onsite, on call during school hours and for after-school events. Our nurse keeps detailed records of all students’ allergies and other medical needs. They’re always happy to speak to parents whether that’s during your tour or during your child’s time at LCIS.
  • Is a school lunch provided, and where is the food sourced and prepared?
    Our onsite catering team cook up fresh, delicious, nutritious meals for our students. Every single day.
  • Does LCIS provide guidance for students?
    Nurturing students’ health and wellbeing is one of the most important things we do as a school. That’s why Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE) education is at the heart of our curriculum, beginning with Circle Time for our Early Years students and continuing with weekly PSHE lessons as they grow. PSHE includes topics such as social and emotional wellbeing, developing study skills, and honing a positive mindset for learning. Our Primary and Secondary counsellors are also onsite to support our students and their families whenever they’re needed.
  • Where do your families live, and do you provide school buses?
    We are proud to welcome families from as far away as Geneva and Lausanne, which reflects the prestige of an LCIS education.
  • How does the school communicate with parents?

    We communicate with parents in a variety of ways:

    Face-to-face meetings, either at planned Academic Review evenings or at the parents’ or teacher’s request
    Through formal reports at the end of each term, as well as a settling-in report after their first month at LCIS
    Emails and phone calls
    Tapestry to share progress and achievements of Early Years students with parents
    Seesaw to send messages to Primary student parents and for teachers to post photos and information about the latest from your child’s class
    ManageBac for Secondary students to access their work and keep track of their homework
    The school’s Facebook and Instagram pages
    Weekly updates summarising school highlights and providing notices of upcoming events and activities

  • As a parent, how can I get involved?
    We meet regularly with our Parent Council to discuss school matters. Through constructive and transparent collaboration, we foster a vibrant network of students, parents, and the wider local community. We also have an active Parent–Teacher Association, who work to create a warm school environment, and facilitate other families’ integration into the school community. Through frequent communication and target surveys, we make sure to always listen to and engage with our parents, incorporating their views into our school action plans. After all, parents are at the very heart of our community, and we welcome and thrive on their engagement. At LCIS, parents are partners.
