On Tuesday, 12th of November our U12 boys football team travelled across the city to St Paul's to play the national sport we all love in Britain and Brazil, football!!!!
A personal excitement for me coming to Brazil was the love for the game and the expected standard of football I would be able to watch and hopefully coach at some point! I haven't been disappointed going to see so far Palmeiras and Sao Paulo FC with some amazing stuff being played and some outrageous skill that can only be associated with Brazilian football or ́futebol ́ as it is affectionately known here in Brazil !!!
I was lucky enough yesterday to go along with Mr Davis, our Head of P.E, to watch the U12 boys play. Now, having already beaten St Paul ́s comfortably last time out the boys were quietly confident of another strong showing. In the typical BCB way we were very organised, humble and highly effective. Mr Davis cut a very calm figure on the sideline with a warm up and team talk which was collaborative with the boys actively contributing to the discussion which is very IB!!!
The game started with the excitement that Kaká, the Brazilian superstar footballer widely considered to be the best player of his generation, being in attendance and sure enough he was there and what a nice guy he is ! So where was I…….the game started in a very even way with some scrappy football being played on a pitch that was not conducive to good football being played on the floor. St Paul ́s scored first and so the game was on!!! BCB adapted their play and went a little more direct playing most of their good football higher up the pitch with some lovely first touches, movement and decisive shooting. The game was 4 x 15 minute quarters which allowed both teams to exercise their squads so everyone had considerable playing time.
BCB ́s play proved to be too strong for St Paul ́s with our boys running out 15 - 5 winners in the end with some clinical shooting with their goalkeeper pulling off numerous incredible shot stopping during the game but it wasn't enough in the end…..the goalkeeper certainly had Marwin, of year 7 ́s, respect!!!
Well done lads, I was very happy to be able to come and watch you and I look forward to seeing more sport, home or away with BCB!!!
