BCB sent 7 students and 2 teachers to participate in the festival this year. Hosted by North Broward Preparatory School in Miami, and in collaboration with Juilliard, the students were put through their paces with a week of workshops and rehearsals. In our small group of 7 we had a choir member, 3 orchestra members, a dancer, a middle school theatre student, and a high school theatre participant. Just showing what a vast spread of talent we have amongst our students at BCB. We also had 2 members who successfully auditioned for the young artists pathway which was an extra strand to the festival encouraging our most talented young performers to move out of their comfort zones and work in collaboration with Juilliard artists and alumni to devise and perform pieces in small ensemble groups. During the week the students had the chance to participate in workshops and one particularly exciting opportunity was the option to do a dance workshop with a cast member of Hamilton (from the North American Tour). In the evenings students were out on trips to see Cirque du Soleil, Groundhog day the musical and a dinner cruise in Miami. After the epic performance on Saturday at the South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Centre, the students were rewarded with a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando which ended with a finale dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. You can see more pictures from the festival on our secondary arts instagram page: BCBARTS.
