BCB Weekly Newsletter (19th of March 2021) Dear Parents, It is almost a year to the day that we originally closed and so I have been searching for a positive topic to discuss with you all, something light-hearted, something not pandemic related. It isn’t easy at the moment, but I am inspired by the children and their positive growth mindsets. The ‘Not Yet’ motto, I haven’t learnt it yet, I am not fluent yet…all with the positive belief that one day it will be achieved, anything is possible.

Dear Parents,

It is almost a year to the day that we originally closed and so I have been searching for a positive topic to discuss with you all, something light-hearted, something not pandemic related. It isn’t easy at the moment, but I am inspired by the children and their positive growth mindsets. The ‘Not Yet’ motto, I haven’t learnt it yet, I am not fluent yet…all with the positive belief that one day it will be achieved, anything is possible.

This week I watched a number of positive messages from students in Years 7, 8 and 9 to their Nord Anglia counterparts in our school in Myanmar. This school reached out to the whole Nord Anglia community to ask for any well wishes or comments to show the children they are part of a big family. Our Key Stage 3 students, Years 7, 8 and 9, recorded something for them, multi-lingually as requested, showing empathy, hope and resilience. These are great qualities indeed and all assuring a better future will come, things will get resolved, they will once again be in a better place, just not yet.

I must also reflect on my recent quarantine, unable to leave the house for 14 days. We are forced to be at home, it is difficult, potentially boring, frustrating…all these are negative thoughts. What could be my not yet? What could I do during this time? Could I learn a new skill, improve an old one? I actually love cooking, so I have tried some new recipes, some different flavours. I am a good cook but not a great one, yet. This experimenting was also fuelled by my experience of online shopping in Brazil. I thought I was ordering certain amounts and ingredients but what arrived was quite different. Instead of being disappointed in myself, it was time to try and use these ingredients, to make something different. Although, I did have to freeze some of the 4 kilograms of broccoli!

Times are what we make of them. What can you and your family do differently? What skills could you practise or learn? How can you reduce screen time and give each other positive energy? Tell jokes, listen to music, play games. Enjoy each other’s company. Learn. Have that growth mindset your children display in school, be positive. We will all be back together soon, just not yet…

Have a peaceful weekend and why not try learning something new?
