Hello, my name is Sophie Stocks and I have been teaching at the British College of Brazil for a year now. As a child, I lived internationally in countries like France and The Netherlands where I attended international schools. We returned back to the United Kingdom during my teenage years however since I qualified as a teacher, I longed to be living internationally again. So here I am in Brasil!
I have been working at The British College of Brazil since it’s been open, in 2011. It is great to see how much the school has grown and developed throughout the years and how it still keeps its rich sense of community.
I can only describe myself as a Global Citizen! I was born in France to a Scottish mother and German father. I grew up in the International circuit, always learning from my many experiences in a variety of languages and cultures. After growing up and studying in Europe, I lived in Asia for almost 14 years and I am now excited to be living in Brazil where I hope to spend many more years. I am here with my son who also attends BCB and we are both trying hard to learn Portuguese.
I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work within the family of Nord Anglia schools and enjoy keeping up to date with teaching and pedagogy skills with the broad range of courses that Nord Anglia University offer. I have been working at the British College of Brazil for almost seven years and feel very proud of what it has achieved and to have contributed to the growth of the school.
From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher! I’ve been extremely lucky to have had so many inspiring, international teachers too! I believe that every child has limitless potential. My aim for every child I teach is to provide them with multiple opportunities to grow into enthusiastic, ambitious, and lifelong learners.
My name is Beatriz Sánchez and I am a certified psychologist specialised in psychopedagogy. As I love to study and I am now getting a bachelor’s degree in Education.
After over four years of teaching, I have grown into a driven, multi-skilled and compassionate teacher, who constantly strives to improve my practice. I have visited Brazil many times and I have fallen in love with its vibrancy, culture, diversity and language. Therefore, the British College of Brazil is the ideal place to continue my career. I believe promoting learning behaviours and a growth mind-set has the greatest impact on children’s progress. Attitudes such as resilience, teamwork, independence and resourcefulness can motivate children to take responsibility for their own education and give them the self-belief to strive to reach their potential, no matter their starting point.
Having visited and travelled across Brazil in 2017, I fell in love with the country, culture and its people. I was born and raised in London but I have also lived and taught children in New York and Beijing, where I developed a wealth of experience and knowledge that I am keen to build upon. Both proved to be rewarding and enjoyable experiences, where I was able to further develop my skills as a teacher; skills which I now look forward to bring with me to The British College of Brazil.
I am really happy to be teaching at BCB. It is a wonderful, happy community filled with incredibly talented children and teachers. I especially love how international it is. Being surrounded by people from all over the world is so beneficial for all of us: it creates a stimulating environment and open-minded, welcoming students. Being a Nord Anglia school gives our children and staff access to an even wider international community.
I was born and educated in London and in 2015 I graduated from St Mary’s University, London, with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education. I then taught Year 3 in one of Britain’s largest primary schools. In 2018 I moved to Brazil, teaching English to more than 30 students, before working in a Brazilian bilingual school in Maringá, Paraná. I was the only native English speaker in the school and trained the staff on how to improve their teaching and assessment techniques. I taught Years 2 and 4 and also had the pleasure of teaching English to Year 9 students to prepare them for their Cambridge First Certificate.
I love my job and I am extremely proud and excited to be working at the British College of Brazil! Being a teacher is both an honour and a privilege and a career in teaching provides a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of so many children. One of the reasons that I became a teacher is because I was fortunate to have excellent teachers who instilled within me a love of learning and a passion for education. I hope that my enthusiasm in the classroom will contribute to the children that I teach achieving great things both now and in the future. I truly believe, that with the right mindset and correct application, anything is possible; it is important that children hear this message every single day.
This will be my 7th year of teaching having spent 2 years in my hometown of Leeds and 4 years in China. I have just come to the end of 4 fantastic years of teaching in a Chinese international school in Shanghai.
Discover a great place to learn.
