Academically speaking, I feel the MET prepared me for college extremely well. The level of connection with the teachers provided a safe space for personal growth both academically and personally - one of the biggest factors in my own successes since I've graduated. All of the teachers cared deeply about us as individuals and as students, which made the learning process much more enjoyable as it catered to how I learn and pushed me to grow in the areas that I needed to work on.
Having the opportunity to be surrounded by internationally minded people helped me discover who I really was, and what I wanted to do with my career. Not only has the MET prepared me academically, but even beyond that, it pushed me to go after my goals and make a difference in the community around me.
I am about to run a tutoring/mentorship program with young refugee girls in the Kansas City area. I wouldn't have been able to do it or know how to connect with them if I hadn't had the chance to learn and grow with people from different countries and cultural backgrounds at the MET. Our class trips and the MET's focus local outreach projects laid the groundwork for me to be able to have run with this idea and create this program.
