This week, BVIS joined the Global Goals campaign. In the Primary School, it was a fantastic stimulus for discussion about our responsibility as global citizens to care for the Earth and its people. Across the Primary School, students watched videos, made Dizzy Goals videos, visited www.globalgoals.org and visited the goals posted throughout the ground floor of the school.
In Year 1, students discussed how the world belongs to all of us and they searched for the goals around the school. Students who were able to identify different goals were given house points!
In Year 4, students discussed the goals on three levels: 1) Why are the goals important? 2) What can we do as a school? 3) What can we do as global citizens?
In Year 6, students discussed international responsibility to take action. They also discussed the power of celebrities and how their messages can be used to support global change. Students were encouraged to share their knowledge of the Global Goals with their family by visiting the Year 6 blog this weekend.
After school, the Secondary members of the Eco Club shared their knowledge of the goals with the Primary club members. Together, they decided to take action and plant a sustainable herb garden. This garden is a small step towards ending hunger, caring for life on land and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
It has been a week for change at BVIS and we are very proud of our Primary students for sharing their knowledge and taking action.
