Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,
Our final Weekly Highlights of Term 1, 2025 – 2026. It has been an incredible term with the most amazing experiences for our students throughout.
On behalf of myself, Mr Toby Bate, Mr Iain Hope and all the staff here at BVIS, we would like to thank you for your engagement and support this term.
What a term it has been, Sports Days, Matilda, University Fairs, ECAs, Day trips, Geography Trips, FOBISIA, Global Campus Competitions and Celebrations, International Week at Primary, Halloween Celebrations, Christmas Fayre, Special Assemblies, Entry and Exit Points, Parents Evenings, Launch of our 15th Anniversary – The Lost Heron, Parent Workshops, Coffee Mornings and lots, lots more!
Not a single week has gone by where we have not had at least 2 events for our community. The highlights are endless.
Please take some time over the holidays to talk to your children about their highlights. Was it the Christmas Fayre? Was it seeing you at their assembly? Was it participating in Sports Day? Was it finding their dream university at the University Fair? Was it scoring a winning goal at lunchtime football or reading their first chapter book? Was it performing on stage in front of peers and family or sharing their learning with you during an exit point?
I am so proud of all our students for their hard work and enthusiasm this term. Seeing how happy they are coming to school each day is a privilege. Thank you for your trust in us to guide your children on their educational journey.
We caught up with Sofia in 10V to reflect on her experience of taking part in this year's production of ‘Matilda’. This was Sofia’s first time taking part in the school production and she performed as a dancer, a parent and a school student at Crunchem Hall.

How did you feel in the moments right before you stepped onto the stage?
I felt a mix of excitement, nervousness - mostly joy. There was this irresistible thrill to performing after the entire crew put so much work and care into perfecting every detail and everyone was so excited we were dancing backstage. Knowing tickets on Thursday and Friday were completely sold out, it made all the practice feel all the more worth it and filled us with the energy to perform our ultimate best!
Describe a moment during the performance that has been particularly memorable or fun for you.
I loved this show so much, every aspect was definitely very rewarding and both the process of practicing and performing were super fun. My personal favourite was the song ‘Revolting Children’. In my opinion I think it was when everyone truly blended into one ensemble to produce the best moment of the show; from the singing to choreography to the energy radiating from of each person. It was so fun backstage before Revolting Children too - people messing their hair and running around to find as many pieces of red cloth as they can fit on their body until everyone looks absolutely diabolical. It was hilarious as well as successful.
What advice would you give to a student who is thinking about auditioning for next year's school show?
You don’t need to be the best singer, dancer or actor in the entire universe to participate; what’s most important is your effort and commitment. Just pour your heart into what you do, and your results will turn out much better than you expect. If you’re still unsure, ask Ms Lopez so you know which one is most suitable for you. You could also start with a smaller role in the ensemble to get the hang of things before stepping into any major roles, this gives you experience, confidence and gets you more comfortable with large-scale projects.
Joining Matilda has given me the courage and motivation to join next year’s show. It’s so much fun and you make so many memories and friends. It's just so worth it. I promise, joining the show would end up being one of the most remarkable school memories you’ll ever get!
Now it is time to rest and enjoy the festive season. we would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday ahead. For those travelling, safe journey, and we look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday January 6th.
Warmest wishes,
Ms Dee
