Postcard from Vietnam: Ms Amber Claydon & Ms Joanna Mearing

27 October 2015

Name: Amber Claydon

Subject: English

Previous destination: London, United Kingdom

I did not choose Vietnam, Vietnam chose me! I was keen to move to South East Asia but was not sure exactly where. My friend had moved here and said it was fantastic. So I put a blindfold on to cover my eyes, spun the globe and pointed my finger to where ever it took me to. It was pointed to the East coast of Vietnam, and here I am!

My first impressions of Vietnam: a charmingly chaotic world of madness; a lovely and colourful nation of old and new.  There’s so much to explore and discover here!

I am being overwhelmed by generosity and kindness of the Vietnamese, one of the warmest and most generous peoples. But I am also taken aback that people are always willing to stop, to learn about you and help you, and that’s been fantastic!

I definitely want: to learn Vietnamese so I can get as much from my experience here as possible. Also, to travel, to learn new skills for new opportunities!

Vietnam in 5 words: Charming, Colourful, Chaotic, Charismatic and CHAU (it’s true)

Name: Joanna Mearing

City: London, England

Teaching: Y3

My reasons to come to Vietnam: I have heard many wonderful things about Vietnam, especially the food, how wonderful the people were. And also, I wanted to explore a new culture that is very different from London.

My first impressions of Vietnam: very hot, delicious food and incredibly friendly people.

To me, the 3 differences between Vietnamese and English people: Vietnamese people are a lot more relaxed, a lot friendlier and it is a lot  easier to travel around (apart from the traffic jams!)

I would sum up Vietnam with: fun, very hot, crazy traffic, delicious food and very welcoming.
