There have been some wonderful events going on in secondary this week. USA Colleges and Universities Week was a resounding success, with visits and talks on applying to higher education in the United States and a University Fair on Thursday morning which was extremely well-attended. In a couple of weeks’ time we will be having the same focus on UK Universities and hope that many of you will come along.
Wednesday morning was a celebration of World Peace Day, and Mr Walker and Mr Williams had put together a stunning performance with years 5-9. Listening to the children all singing together sent shivers down my spine, and once again showcased the talent we have amongst students and staff, as well as reminding us of the message of peace sent across the world.
We also joined with Primary in their book week, with key stage 3 students taking part in writing workshops on Friday – hopefully we have some budding authors amongst them!
Can I please remind parents and students that clubs have now started and students should attend every session. Registers are taken and we will be following up any non-attendance. Students should also not be swapping clubs at this stage. Thank you for your support with this.
And finally, a new initiative in Key Stage 3…

Last week saw the introduction of an exciting new tutor-time initiative in Key Stage 3. Using an idea made famous by Google, students are being allowed to spend 20% of their time in tutor groups working on a project of their choice. They have submitted ideas for projects to their tutors and will need to show how they are using this time productively. Students are able to spend 20% of their time on on Wednesday mornings in school and are also encouraged to do further research at home. Why not ask your son or daughter how they are spending their 20%? - Mr Gunn
Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to see many of you at the BBGV Run on Sunday!
