This week in the Primary School
Our inaugural “Bilingual Month” has been taking place this month to celebrate our children’s amazing bilingual skills. All sorts of activities have been taking place around the school to help the children focus upon what it means to be bilingual and to feel proud of their special skills.
A very fitting finale to this was our Primary assembly. We found out which children had won the poster competition about being bilingual. There were many fantastic entries but the 10 winners were: Cherry 3S, The Dung 3S, Se-A 4I, Kayla 5V, Bao Tran 5I, Gia Ngoc 5I, Bella 5S, Henry 5S, Lucy 6I, Thao Nguyen 6I
Class 6I delivered an excellent class assembly, sharing with us some of their recent learning in both languages and helping us to celebrate bilingualism.
We also sang a bilingual song, “True Colours” with sections sung in English and others in Vietnamese. As always, the children sang with great enthusiasm and pleasure.
Finally, we found out who were the first half term’s ‘super readers’ in Years 1 – 6. BVIS children are expected to read in both Vietnamese and English so it was encouraging to find out that so many children are reading in both languages with great commitment.
The assembly was a fabulous ending to the first half term of the 2017 – 2018 academic year. Both BVIS children and staff are tired after all their hard work, so I wish everyone a very happy break from school routines. I look forward to seeing you in a week’s time refreshed and ready for another half term of learning.
