This week in the Primary School

Author and illustrator Liz Million visits BVIS

We are so fortunate at BVIS to be able to regularly welcome visitors into our school to enhance the children’s learning experience.

This week we were thrilled to have Liz Million here for her second visit to BVIS. Last time she came was in 2013 and she left a permanent reminder along the Early Years corridor and in our Family Room.

This week, Liz delivered presentations and workshops to all our Early Years and Primary children linked to their units of learning in Literacy or Lien Ket. This gave the children a valuable insight into the job of a real-life illustrator but also helped to bring the stories and themes they are learning about in class to life.

I joined Year 3 in the library as Liz illustrated their learning about “The Jungle Book”. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching her draw characters from the story as well as create some new animal characters of her own.

Who will be our next visitor? Paul Murphy, our mentor from Juilliard New York, returns next month to BVIS. Sometimes our guests are with us to inspire our children, but they can also provide valuable professional development for our teachers. Paul will be doing exactly that during his programme of lessons and observations in Early Years, Primary and Secondary music lessons.
