Happy new year and a very warm welcome to all our new families who joined BVIS this term. We hope your children will settle in quickly and will be very happy at our school. I hope all our returning families had a lovely break from school routines and wonderful trips if you were travelling.
We began term two in the Primary School with International Week. This is a special week when we aim to develop our children’s global citizenship skills. However, whilst the children are engaged in their learning about children in other countries, we expect the other key words in our school’s “aide memoire” to be focussed upon too. Our children can learn to respect other cultures, use their enquiry skills to find out about geographical features, and so on.
Each department or year group in the school focused upon a specific continent and the children have had a fabulous week learning about different countries within that continent:
Early Years – Asia (Philippines)
Year 1 and 2 – Asia and Australasia (South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Thailand and Australia, New Zealand)
Year 3 – North/Central America (Cuba, Hawaii)
Year 4 – Europe (Italy, Spain)
Year 5 – Africa (Egypt, South Africa, Tanzania)
Year 6 – South America (Brazil)
The week ended with a special assembly when each year group shared a little of their learning with the rest of the school. It has been a memorable start to term two at BVIS!
