World Book Day celebrations and Grandparents’ Day
Firstly, welcome back to school. We hope that you all enjoyed a very happy time at Tet – quality time as a family and lovely food too!
It’s been a special first week back at school as we celebrated World Book Day and the importance of reading. Primary children visited our bookshop with their class and I hope you managed some shopping time too?
I watched older children snuggle up with younger children to share books during our paired reading sessions. Year 5 and Year 6 children read to Early Years classes and Secondary students shared books with classes in Years 1 – 4.
On Friday, staff and children dressed up as book characters for Primary assembly when we welcomed our BVIS grandparents into school. The assembly included our special World Book Day song, sung enthusiastically as always by the children and supported by the teachers’ band. We enjoyed a sneak preview of the upcoming Secondary production of “Alice in Wonderland” and also appreciated everyone’s costumes.
After assembly, grandparents were provided with refreshments and the opportunity to participate in a range of activities with their grandchildren including crafts, story time and a fun photo booth. It was a lovely family occasion and I hope our grandparents enjoyed their time in school, seeing their grandchildren in their learning environment for themselves.
It was also a pleasure to welcome NGUYỄN THỊ MINH THÁI, Professor, Dr. of Literature Arts from the National University of Vietnam (Hanoi) who is grandmother of one of our Year 5 children. A big thank you to her for her support with the event.
