The Year 6 children have been thoroughly enjoying their Location topic, studying the customs, cultures, attractions, transportation systems and much more from their chosen tourist destinations around the world. In order to build on their knowledge and understanding of this topic, Year 6 were visited by Super Cycling Man: a real life super hero who has spent the last three years cycling from London to Ho Chi Minh City in order to raise money for Parkinson’s disease.
This visit linked perfectly with our Location topic. The children were able to learn all about the challenges and surprises that Super Cycling Man encountered on his journey from having to cycle 200KM in one day from Turkey to Georgia to the breath taking views whilst cycling the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan.
We loved hearing about what inspired Super Cycling Man’s journey and particularly learning about how we can all be heroes through small acts of kindness. He has inspired the children to be heroes in five easy steps.
- Be Kind
- Go for your dreams
- Don’t give up
- Ride your bike
- Look after your health
Following the visit, the children will consider what they can do every day to be heroes. They have made a great start already, raising over 2 million VND for Super Cycling Man’s journey. Through their own studies, the children were also able to give him advice as he will be travelling on to Hanoi, Tokyo, Australia and, in a few years’ time, Brazil.
