Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning!

Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning. William Arthur Ward (American writer 1921-1994)

In Primary, we have actively been encouraging collaboration between parents, school and children through an extended homework activity called Project Curiosity.

Through this type of homework project, we aim to nurture independent study skills as well as the characteristics for learning as stated in the school’s mission statement: Enquiry Skills, Reflection and Perseverance. For Project Curiosity the children chose their own topics or subjects they themselves were interested in with the guidance and support from parents.

From 21st September to 08th October 2020, our Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 children have been given a specific time and date to present their project in a “Show and Tell” style of presentation. We were very excited to see many parents in class and hoped that you enjoyed taking part in your child’s learning experience too. Some of the Show and Tells have included PowerPoint presentations, posters, models, photos, and videos. It has been fantastic to see the children coming to the front of the class, speaking to their peers about their chosen topic, and answering questions on that topic.

Research into homework in Primary schools shows that positive parent attitudes are directly related to children’s engagement and success.

Thank you to all parents who have collaborated with their children throughout the planning, research and final preparation stages of their children’s projects.
