See our Year 12 Psychology students in Actions!

Year 12 psychologists had the chance to put theory into practice this week. They were learning about the complexities of naturalistic observation.

The A Level Psychology subject at BVIS aims to develop the skills and the necessary conceptual knowledge to engage with current psychological research  and  debate.

Whilst  the  emphasis  is  on  the  development  of  psychological  skills  as  well  as  learning  psychological  knowledge,  the  course  develop  fundamental  high  level  learning  abilities  that  are  transferable  to  any  discipline.  These  include  improved  academic  writing,  analytical  &  evaluative  skills,  as  well  as  learning  how  to  apply empirical knowledge to practical situations. All of these skills are highly sought after by any university and are fundamental for the workplace.

Naturalistic observation is an important research tool used by psychologists worldwide to collect data. Our A Level Psychology students took on the role of researchers this week to investigate social behaviour around the primary school campus.

The students were split into two groups, each performing either a structured observation or an unstructured observation. They witnessed many positive behaviours around the school, highlighting the enthusiasm and focus of the students.

In class discussion after their data collection, students were able to describe their findings, compare the two techniques, and evaluate their methodology for reliability and validity.
