Council of International Schools (CIS)

cislogoThe CIS vision is to inspire the development of global citizens through high quality international education: connecting ideas, cultures and educators from every corner of the world.

Nearly 700 schools and about 500 colleges and universities representing 112 countries are CIS members. Out of those, fewer than 500 schools are fully accredited by the CIS. All CIS schools share the following ideals:

  • a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens
  • a commitment to high quality international education

Accredited members must infuse their programmes and offerings with international and intercultural perspectives so that students can move forward with the attitudes and understanding that will provide them with a solid base wherever their studies or work may take them. Primary and secondary school members must further commit to undertaking an ongoing external quality assurance process to enhance student learning.

Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA)

FOBISIAFOBISIA is a prestigious federation of 50 of the best British international schools in the region. All member schools are closely scrutinised on application and have to meet an extensive range of quality standards in order to be accepted into the group and to retain membership.

The membership enables our students to take part in a variety of cross-school international competitions, fixtures, and events, such as for example the FOBISIA Games and the FOBISIA Performing Arts Festival. Other FOBISIA events for students include:

  • collaboration over community service projects
  • a Model United Nations conference
  • a Primary Maths competition
  • a Drama Festival

FOBISIA also organises conferences where teachers from across the region can meet to share good practice, swap ideas and receive professional training. There is also a FOBISIA teacher professional development executive committee. The committee arranges for university lecturers from the UK to train teachers from around the region helping to ensure we keep our teachers up to date with the latest educational thinking and providing opportunities for them to study for further qualifications.

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)

CIEOur international A Level qualifications are fully accredited by the Cambridge International Examinations Board, part of the University of Cambridge. CIE is the world’s largest provider of education programmes and qualifications and works with over 9,000 schools in 160 countries.

Cambridge qualifications are accepted and valued by universities around the world, including MIT, Harvard and Cambridge. They are recognised as qualifications that prepare and equip students with the skills they need to succeed both at university and beyond. Universities tell us that they value the independent research and critical thinking skills, as well as the deep subject knowledge that our qualifications bring. CIE works with these universities when we revise our qualifications – getting expert advice to make sure we’re preparing students to succeed at university and beyond.

CIE also supports the teaching of international A Levels by offering a wealth of teaching and learning resources, as well as past exam papers and examiners’ reports. BVIS teachers are part of a network of top professionals who receive continuing professional development through regional courses organised by CIE to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest educational thinking.

To find out more, visit the CIE website.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

ipcOur Primary School is an IPC member school. We use a customised version of the IPC programme called Lien Ket that ensures our students can learn inter-disciplinarily and develop international mindedness through the medium of Vietnamese and English.

The IPC is much more than just a curriculum. It is a philosophy, pedagogy and process that can help learners, teachers, leaders and the community to continually focus on improving learning. The IPC is a rigorous, learning-focused curriculum that helps children to learn and develop academic knowledge, skills and understanding through thematic units that explore a number of topics in their home context as well as internationally.
