Matt joined BVIS in the summer of 2016 as a Year 6 teacher. He was inspired to get into teaching after teaching English in China in 2011. After completing his PGCE in Brighton, he spent a year as a supply teacher, teaching all Primary age groups across Brighton and Hove in the UK. He then took a job teaching Year 4 at a large, high-achieving Primary school in Brighton. Matt has an interest in children’s attitudes towards learning and has participated in different research projects, looking into how best to engage and motivate pupils to learn. He is also a keen sportsman and has brought this enthusiasm to his previous schools, running a tennis club for Years 3 and 4 as well as running the Year 6 football team. In his spare time, Matt likes to engage in social and sporting activities and has a particular passion for football, volleyball and rock climbing. He loves to travel and has done so across Europe, Asia and Northern Africa.
