English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At ISM, we run tailored EAL programmes for children who need additional help with the English language.

At Primary, specialist EAL teachers work with each year group, supporting students in and outside the classroom in both one-to-one and small group sessions.

Secondary students benefit from ability-grouping in English lessons, which ensure that those children with limited English receive the right level of support. All our teachers are trained in working with language learners, too. This ensures that every lesson is differentiated for students with contrasting English language abilities.

Education for all

We're committed to providing an appropriate, high-quality education for every student. We believe that all young people are entitled to enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum, which is fully accessible.

We know how important it is for each child to feel welcome and valued, and inclusion is an integral component of our school ethos. Everyone here encourages:

We regularly observe, assess, and record our students' progress to identify learners who may have additional needs.

New students are assessed as part of our admissions process to establish whether any additional support is required. Our Student Support Services teacher will, with the assistance of colleagues, then work with the family to devise a personalised programme that suits each individual.
