Congratulations to our Upper Primary ISM Lions for their fantastic performance in the World School Games.
The games were held in Dubai from Wednesday 29th January to Saturday 1st February. Twenty-three schools from around the world met to compete in athletics, football, and swimming. All competitors relished the chance and even found new friends.
This year, the athletics event was held at the fantastic facilities in Dubai Sports City and our teams battled the heat to achieve some amazing personal bests in their events.
The most notable performances by our students included 4th place in the shot put for Taicia Kiuna and the 5th place for Sophia Calver in the javelin.
On day two, our teams competed for the football trophy. The standard was extremely high and some amazing football skills were on display. The boys team topped their group stage but were closely edged out on penalties in the quarter finals after being tipped to be a contender for the final.
The overall football MVP went to our very own Timur Grachev for his outstanding performances throughout the day.
Hamdan Sports Complex was the venue for the final day’s competition in the swimming pool. Another brace of personal bests for all our athletes and a near miss on a spot in one of the finals for Sophia Calver.
Our students all had a fantastic time over the three days of competition and the experience was enhanced by enthusiastic support from our parents.
ISM came away with a well-deserved trophy for fair play, voted for by the other schools in the tournament.
Well done, Lions!
