I have always enjoyed performing and the buzz it gives a musician when they are on stage is one of the best feelings ever. However, as a student I would never have decided to study music or to want to play piano or sing without seeing others perform to me.
My own school experiences support my view that as a music teacher I can’t expect students to get up on stage to perform without seeing their teachers demonstrate and inspire. Teachers should always lead by example and our annual Teachers Recital Concert, which took place on the final Thursday in September, opened the recital season at the International school of Moscow.
All of our instrumental team in the Music Department are highly accomplished musicians studying or teaching at some of Moscow most celebrated institutions and although students who partake in lessons will see much good practise they don’t often get the opportunity to see their teachers on stage in a concert.
The repertoire ranged from Schumann to Elton John, from Classical to Jazz as the audiences enjoyed the delightful surroundings of a specially decorated Ivan Gromov Gymnasium accompanied by non-aolcoholic champagne that added to the high-class ambience.
The evening started with an ensemble performance of Edward Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’ from his Enigma Variations. This was quite fitting following the recent passing of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.
I am pleased to announce that that ISM’s chosen charity, Diemas Dream, and in collaboration with ISM’s day of European Languages (MFL Department) collected 30,000rubles as a result of this event.
In addition to the work of the Music Team this evening would not have been a success without the fantastic support of ISM’s Marketing, IT and Facilities team.
It is now over to the students, with recitals taking place across all campuses during the 2nd and 3rd week of November.
