Dear Parents,
It has been a week full of reasons to celebrate our students’ success! Our U12 Basketball team has been crowned champions — a tremendous achievement that reflects their teamwork and dedication.
Our swimmers have returned from the FOBISIA Swimming Championships in Phuket, where they represented NAIS HK with great spirit and sportsmanship. Equally impressive, Team Tanzania has continued to inspire through their commitment to service and by creating lifelong memories.
My appreciation goes to all members of staff who have gone above and beyond to support these enriching experiences for our students.
As we look ahead, we are gearing up for the Academic Cup, with NAIS HK and The British School of Nanjing (BSN) reaching the finals. We are delighted to host this face-to-face, university-challenge–style event, and we look forward to sharing our Hong Kong culture and community spirit with our sister school. Good luck to all our competitors!
Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending the Toddle Conference, Hong Kong. Toddle is an innovative learning platform designed to support teachers and students in planning, documenting, and sharing learning journeys in one place. The conference focused on how AI can enhance student learning and teacher collaboration in meaningful, safe, and age-appropriate ways, for example by helping teachers personalise learning and streamline feedback while keeping student wellbeing and privacy at the centre. Our Secondary team is currently in the early stages of adopting Toddle, and parents will receive more information on how it will further strengthen communication and learning experiences in the future.
Best regards,
Fiona Thorndike
Head of Secondary
Tanzania Reflection – Arj Mistry
Reflecting on our journey to Tanzania, the overwhelming feeling is one of immense gratitude and pride. This was far more than a trip; it was a profound exchange. Working on the Umoja and Seeway projects, we rolled up our sleeves to create tangible, lasting impact within the communities, an experience that taught us the true meaning of purposeful action.
Beyond the physical work, the cultural exchange was transformative. Sharing stories, laughter, and daily life with our Tanzanian hosts offered a perspective no textbook ever could. Learning about sustainable farming practices first-hand was a humbling lesson in ingenuity and living in harmony with the environment.
Most remarkably, our NAIS Hong Kong team coalesced into a single, determined unit. Across year groups and backgrounds, we supported, challenged, and uplifted one another, discovering strengths we never knew we had. In the process, we didn’t just build desks or dormitories; we built incredible friendships and memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime—from sundown chats to the shared excitement of seeing a pride of lions.
We return not just with photos, but with changed outlooks, full hearts, and a reinforced belief in collective effort. Asante sana, Tanzania.

U16 Boys Football Report: Knights Come Full Circle
3/4 Playoff vs. SIS – Final Score: 1-2 Loss
The NAIS U16 boys’ football team wrapped up their season with a rematch against SIS, the same team they faced on opening day. While the memories of a 5-0 defeat faded, the Knights took to the uneven Kwun Tong Astro pitch for their final game. For Year 11 students, Andrey and William, this was likely their last match in a Knight's jersey.
The game was closely contested, but despite their valiant efforts, the Knights ended their campaign without silverware. Nonetheless, the lessons learned throughout the season will be invaluable as they move forward.
Thank you to our players, coaches, and supporters for a season of dedication and growth. We look forward to continued development in the coming years!

U12 Boys Basketball

ISSFHK Division 3 Final vs. CAIS – Final Score: 46-16 Win 🥇
The U12 boys' basketball team showcased their skills in the ISSFHK Division 3 Final, defeating CAIS 46-16. Despite injuries to key players Jerry and Jan, the Knights started strong, leading 17-4 at the end of the first quarter. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 35-14, effectively sealing the game. Tight defense and some fabulous assists saw the match finish with the Knights triumphant at 46-16.
Congratulations to our champions on a fantastic season and a well-deserved victory! Your teamwork and effort have left a lasting legacy!

Intermediate Maths Challenge – Andy McIntosh / Sinead Teh
We are delighted to share that our students took part in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) on Thursday. They faced demanding, unfamiliar problems with great focus and determination, showcasing their mathematical agility beyond the standard curriculum. Their participation—and the achievements it has already brought—has strengthened their analytical skills and confidence. We are so proud of every student who embraced this national challenge and look forward to their continued growth in mathematics.

Y9 Pathways Discovery Event Reminder and Sign-Up Link – Aidan Ryan
A reminder that the Y9 Parent’s IGCSE Pathways Discovery Event will take place on Thursday 5th February from 5-6pm. The main purpose of this event is for parents to meet with the various Heads of Department and learn/discover more about the IGCSE subjects we offer at NAIS HK and their curriculums. It also allows for discussions to take place on the relevancy and suitability of subjects for specific students. All of this will help students and parents to make more informed choices for when selecting their IGCSE subjects in the coming months. The event will begin with a 10-minute presentation in the Auditorium, and then the rest of the evening will be dedicated to parents speaking with HODs.
